Shirt for Gwen

Part of my AS course was to design and produce a shirt for a celebrity. I chose Gwen Stefani, and after researching into her style thoroughly, I came up with the design of a fairly simple pale blue shirt at the front, with a yoke and mesh cut-out at the back. I decorated the mesh with embroidery patches and sequins.

Off Duty

I've been garment researching all day..and it's starting to prove quite useful for inspiration. I was looking through Style.com for past collections with sportswear for fashion or rever collars and naturally, came across one of Chanel Iman for Badgley Mischka Autumn/Winter 2007..which reminded me of several pictures I've been meaning to post for a while but haven't got round to yet. I love her sense of style, she always looks just perfect.

Inspiration for today: a piece from the German Vogue 1984 editorial on Sable Fur Coats. I came across this whilst researching outerwear for my Garment Technology module.

Digital Love

Finally, I have finished the short promotional video for my blog. Eventually I'll get round to putting it in one of my side bars, but for now I'll just post it here for you to have a look.

It was great fun to shoot, and I'm really grateful to everyone who helped me out by filming/photographing, and of course agreeing to participate! Thank you to all of you!

Colin again

Today I was lucky enough to listen to my second lecture given by Colin McDowell..this time within my own 20th Century Fashion module. A highly entertaining and involved presentation about his thoughts and views on the subject, had everyone listening intently. Growing up reading the Sunday Times Style magazine (I used to collect the 'Fashion Moment' pages!) and having previously seen Colin in conversation with Donatella Versace, this was an inspiring hour for me, particularly as my favourite designer is John Galliano, and a lot of the lecture was spent discussing his amazing contribution to the fashion industry.
I managed to snap a quick phone picture at the beginning of the lecture, of Colin with David, the head of fashion at Leeds University..

But I think this picture just sums the whole thing up...

Wow.

Where The Wild Things Are

Beautiful editorial for Dazed & Confused December 2009, reflecting the Where The Wild Things are popular children's book. Abbey Lee Kershaw shot by Daniel Jackson.

I can't wait for the film of this story to come out, it was one of my favourites as a child.

For my garment technology module we have to make a collection of samples this semester, including types of sleeves, bodices, collars etc. We also have to make a research board prior to the pattern cutting session.

Rest In Peace

Daul Kim. Say hi to forever. x

It's a sad day in the fashion industry and blogging world..former Storm & Elite model Daul Kim was reported dead in her apartment supposedly having committed suicide. Her current agency Next say their thoughts are with her family and close friends at this time. Her last blog post was entitled 'say hi to forever'. She was just 20 years old.

Daul's blog.

Art On The Street Where You Live

Observation whilst walking down the road to post some pretty envelopes the other day, I noticed my street has quite a few artistic pieces to display.

The van was painted by Nikolas at
Olas Art. The magic marker dog & cat have only just appeared on the side of that container, and I think the bicycle gate is amazing!
What's on the street where you live?

Key Shapes

Inspiration for today: a selection of images that inspired the key shaping trends for Autumn/Winter 2010/11. I'm currently researching into the shape trends for my design journal, and these caught my eye in particular.
