Balloon Art

I think it's about time I thanked a special reader. Everyday since I've started this project, a friend of mine has been supporting me left, right and centre. She reads every single post, and constantly leaves me feedback. She also leaves me suggestions and websites that might interest me. Today, she posted me a link to this balloon art thread. I still can't quite believe it's possible to create an actual outfit out of...balloons! So a huge thank you to Anoushka, for all her support, and of course, the source of today's post !

Trustafarian

Watching St Trinians 2 today, I was reminded of how much I love Juno Temple. Her style is immaculate, and so versatile. She looks good with dreadlocks and as a cave girl..

She reminds me of Renee Zellweger so much!

Happy Xmas War Is Over

Hearing Christmas songs everywhere the last few days reminded me of a great opportunity I was given a few Decembers ago. In 2005, Radio 2 held a John Lennon tribute to the life of The Beatles front man. Various British artists across the UK were asked to choose a Beatles/Lennon song to cover and record in a live session at Abbey Road Studios, London.

I was invited to form part of a small choir to sing the choir's part of "Happy Xmas War Is Over" with Badly Drawn Boy.

There was a great turnout of artists for the live session, including The Delays, Jamie Cullum, Katie Melua, Paul Weller (although I didn't see him unfortunately), The Sugababes (when they were Keisha, Heidi and Mutya!) and Stereo MCs.

Jamie Cullum covering 'Real Love'

The Delays covering 'Beautiful Boy'

Katie Melua's beautiful cover of 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds'

You can view the rest of the gallery
here, but unfortunately the radio show has been discontinued now because it was so long ago.

It was a great evening, and was a really nice way to celebrate the life of such a legend within the music industry. I met some great people, and managed to land myself 5 days work experience at Badly Drawn Boy, Snow Patrol and The Verve's record management company too!

The King's Speech

Last week I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to be present on the set of a film. The King's Speech, set to be screened at cinema's nationwide in 2010, has a star studded British cast including Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, Geoffrey Rush, Timothy Spall and Jennifer Ehle, amongst others. We filmed from 7am til around 4:30pm in minus temperatures, and even had close up shots filmed in a heavy snow blizzard! Unfortunately, due to the nature of the filming, I didn't really get the chance to take as many pictures as I would have liked of the 1920s period costumes. But here are a few shots I managed to take on my phone in between shoots.

The full 1920's nurse costume

It was such a great experience, and unlike anything I've experienced before! Hair and make-up literally do come round and groom you every 5 minutes!
It's interesting though, that so many of us there thought there would be a lot more reflection of the 'glamour' associated with the 1920s. This showed a completely different side to 1920s fashion for me, and that it perhaps wasn't quite as glamorous as people thought.

I'll leave you with a final picture of the film crew in the snow, still filming around 6pm as I was leaving.

Virtual Lookbook

Today I discovered a virtual styling website that's pretty similar to Lookbook.nu. Except you style the model in whatever garments you want, with whatever setting you choose and whatever accessories you like. You can basically create your own editorials on it.

An example of a sports/street wear editorial I created on Looklet.

You can sign up and have a go here.

SPUTNIK.

Sorry for serious lack of posts so far this month. I've been run off my feet with deadline week and finishing everything off before the Christmas break! But I'm finished now, so I'm back to the blog!
I came across these ages ago and have been waiting to post them for a while. From the third issue of Duke Magazine, the editorial was called Sputnik, photographed by Thom Kerr. But most importantly it was styled by the legendary MS FITZ, one of my favourite stylists and artistic directors.

Analyse This

Apologies for lack of posting over the the weekend, it was my birthday and I've been really busy. I have so many deadlines to meet this week too, so the posting might be further on hold until Friday! Thanks for all the lovely comments about my flat garment boards, I should have the final illustrations ready to share tomorrow. Also, thank you to those of you who mentioned my messed up layout! I had no idea it had changed (I'm a Mac user, and it looked exactly the same as before in Safari!). I'm sure it's fixed now, but if it still doesn't look right in Firefox/Internet Exp. please let me know!

A few pages of my product research for my Garment Technology module. Each week we were required to compile an A3 research board on a specific type of garment, then analyse each product on the board. We would then follow up the research by creating the pattern and a sample for that garment.

All work is my own.

Spec Drawings

Two of my finalised flat specification drawing boards. These are the pieces from my capsule collection I'm designing for Maison Martin Margiela at the moment. I'm so nearly finished, just got the fashion illustrations to finish. These were drawn by hand, scanned and photoshopped so you can get an idea of what the fabric will look like on the garments.

All my own work.

Wish You Were Here

I had planned to share some of my fashion sketches today that I've been working on for my Digital Design module. Using a software that's new to me - Lectra - I've been learning to use both Kaledo Print & Kaledo Style over the last 10 weeks.
Our brief was to create a collection with three different garments, three different prints and three colourways for each print, along with a colour palette and supporting research. I managed to finish my collection today, complete with prints and illustrations for the garments..but unfortunately the computer decided it would be a perfect time to delete the entire file I was working on and all its back-up files just as I was getting ready to print.

So instead, this is a photo I took on holiday this year in Florida. My friend told me she thought it was actually a postcard! Wish you were here?

Shirt for Gwen

Part of my AS course was to design and produce a shirt for a celebrity. I chose Gwen Stefani, and after researching into her style thoroughly, I came up with the design of a fairly simple pale blue shirt at the front, with a yoke and mesh cut-out at the back. I decorated the mesh with embroidery patches and sequins.
